Listvyanka

Listvyanka is a small resort and fishing village at the point where the Angara River flows from Baikal. Historically the area was first settled by Russians about 1645 and a century or so later it was a small ferry port for merchants crossing Baikal. Today the village is decidedly tatty straggling along the Baikal shore. There is a settled area up one of the valleys above which our hotel stood. This area was interesting to see in terms of the example it offered of Russian contrasts, including that between affluence and poverty.
