Temple of Heaven

The Temple of Heaven in Beijing was built from the early 1400s as a sacrificial site where the emperor would pray to Heaven for good harvests. Earth was represented by a square and Heaven as a circle, symbols which are reflected in the layout of this and other sites. A UNESCO World Heritage Site it attracts 12 million visitors every year.
