Rogers Pass

At 1382m in the Kootenay Rockies the pass was discovered  by a Major Rogers in 1881 and used by the CPR in 1885. The Trans-Canada Higway came much later in 1962. The original railway proved too hazardous to operate because of extreme gradients and was liable to avalanches. In 1916 the 8km Connaught Tunnel under the pass was completed. The pass is located in Glacier National Park.
