Jasper 1

Jasper, with a population of about 4,500, lies in the Athabasca Valley at the centre of the Jasper National Park. With its origins in 1813 as a trading post it saw the National Park created in 1907 and the railway arrived in 1911. The Icefields Parkway was opened in 1940. It is still a major rail centre but today the economy is mainly based on tourism.
