Springtime in Holland
An attractive small town that was once an important harbour
docked in time for me to spend an hour wandering around Enkhuisen
before dinner. It is just a short walk to the town centre past the
splendid C19th brick railway station.
Enkhuisen is an attractive town centre with a mix of old and modern houses. All buildings are brick and modern buildings are designed to complement the old.
This old warehouse is now part of the Zuiderzeemuseum where over 100 historical buildings have been reconstructed as an open air museum
Typical white wooden bridges carry traffic across the canals.
The tower of the massive C1St Panceatius Church or Zuiderkerk, dominates the skyline. It was originally the church of the fisherman and the tower served as a beacon for them. The church is only open on summer afternoons.
