Springtime in Holland
A 45 minute boat trip through the bulb fields around Keukenhof Gardens
are popular with visitors and there can be long queues and a long wait.
The whisper boats are large punt like boats carryng around 40 people.
They run from the Windmill along the side of Keukenhof Gardens before
sailing past the commercial bulb fields and then returning.
It is a leisurely sail with the sound of skylarks and black headed gulls, great crested grebes, heron and lapwings. There is a commentary, but my set of headphones refused to work. As you are on nose level to the banks, you have to stand to take pictures and the motion of the oats can result in them appearing blurred.
People were working in the fields and fully opened flowers were being removed with the petals dropped between the rows, to encourage bulb formation. Some of the unopened buds were being picked for sale.
