We had a very wet drive from Spain but as we headed east into France it faired up and we called in at the hilltop village of Saint-Bertrand-de-Comminges. The site was originally occupied by a Celtic settlement and then a Roman fort. Sacked by the Vandals it remained deserted for 500 years until 1083 saw the foundation of a monastery.
