Rocamadour is a cluster of buildings dominated by Basilique St-Sauveur, clinging to a vertical limestone cliff above the River Alzou. At the top is the chteau. Ruinous after the Revolution it was restored by the Bishop of Cahors with a view to restoring the immense medieval pilgrimage traffic. Today it is visited by pilgrims - and droves of tourists.
