Suzdal - Pokrov Convent

The full title of this working convent is the Convent of the Intercession of the Mother of God. Originally founded in 1364 most of the remaining buildings date from the 1500s. The convent became much used as a place for noblewomen who did not produce heirs, who presented 'problems' in various dynastic schemes or who, for whatever other reason, were removed from the public gaze and forced to take the veil here. The site now includes tourist accommodation.
