Ggantija

The temples at Ggantija are older than the Egyptian pyramids and, built over 5,500 years ago, are considered to be the oldest free-standing man made structure in the world. There are two temples built between 3600 and 3000 BC enclosed by a massive stone boundary wall. They appear to have remained in use for about 1,000 years until the Maltese Temple Culture suddenly disappeared. Later use of the site was made by Bronze Age people as a cremation cemetery.
