Valletta, Malta's capital, is part of the extensive built up area on the island's north coast. Built on one of the heavily fortified peninsulas which project into the Grand Harbour Valletta itself is actually quite small being less than a mile long. To be frank we were disappointed by the city which, away from the relatively small tourist area, is looking very tired in many places, although to be fair there were several regeneration projects in hand.
