Cromwell, an old gold mining town in Central Otago, with the Carrick Range

Cromwell was situated on high ground at the junction of the gorges of the Rivers Clutha and Kawarau.
'Was' situated because the Clutha was damned downstream at Clyde to create Lake Dunstan in the gorges.
As a result the old centre of Cromwell is now under water and a new town centre built at the opposite end of town.
