Bannockburn Sluicings

The gold originated in eroded quartz veins much higher up in the Carrick Range.
It was washed downhill in the gravels which now form this area and initially obtained by tunnelling into the base of the cliffs.
Later availability of water supplies allowed sluicing, which washed the cliffs away allowing the gold to be recovered from the run-off.
