Bannockburn Sluicings - Menzies Dam - 1868

John Menzies and David Stewart built this stone-faced earth dam to supply water the sluicings.
Water was the source of many arguments. In some cases the water suppliers thought the water continued to belong to
them even after it had been used. Miners thought they had bought the water and could sell it on to downstream users.
The networks of catchwaters above and races below the dams could be complex.
